On June 12, 2020, Fairfax County entered Phase 2 of the “Forward Virginia” plan for recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, which allowed the resumption of some youth sports activities with restrictions. Phase 3 of the recovery, which does not materially change the restrictions for baseball activities, began on July 1.
To promote the health and safety of everyone involved with Great Falls Little League (“GFLL”) activities, and consistent with the latest authoritative guidance from the Virginia Department of Health, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), Little League International, and others, GFLL's Return to Play (“RTP”) Committee has adopted this Plan for supplemental protocols, which will apply until amended or rescinded.
The Board of Directors approved the initial supplemental COVID-19 safety protocols for the 2020 Fall season. These protocols have been updated for the Spring 2021. Please familiarize yourself with the updates and adhere to them every time you attend a GFLL event. These protocols will continue to be adjusted as appropriate and necessary if circumstances or government guidance change.
Some of the key changes for the Spring 2021 season include:
- Players must wear masks in the dugout areas at all times, including when on offense prior to an at-bat and upon returning to the dugout following offensive play.
- Per Executive Order 72 issued on 2/24/21 by Virginia Governor Northam, spectators must now adhere to the following:
- 13.A. For sports played outdoors the total number of spectators cannot exceed the lesser of 30 percent of the occupancy load of the certificate of occupancy for the venue or 250 spectators per field. Spectators must wear masks over their nose and mouth in accordance with section II. Ten feet of physical distance must be maintained between spectators who are not Family members, as defined in section I, subsection D, paragraph 2.
