Become an Umpire Today

Umpire Volunteers Needed!

Great Falls Little League is always looking for adult volunteers (men and women) who want to umpire. We provide a 4-hour on-field training session, ongoing mentoring and reimbursement for clothing and gear; you provide your time and enthusiasm. Umpiring is a great way to be involved with Little League and to watch games from the best seat in the house! Plus, you'll get to work with our great corps of teenage umps.

You do not have to commit to working a “minimum” number of games and you won’t be randomly scheduled. We use an online scheduling system where you log in, see what games have umpire openings and you select as many games as you wish to umpire.  It is 100% in your court to decide how much time you are willing to give.

We aim to provide two to four umpires to each game at the AA, AAA, and Majors levels in baseball and AA and AAA levels in softball – this can mean more than 50 games in a single season!  We currently have just a handful of adult umpires who simply love the game (they don’t have kids in the league) – and we always need more folks willing to get trained and work games.  If you love baseball and want to give back to your community, please consider becoming an Adult Umpire for Great Falls Little League.  You won’t regret it.

If you want to volunteer to be an adult volunteer umpire, please see the instructions below.  We'll get back in touch with you to tell you when the training is and how to get started.

Youth Umpires

There is nothing we like better than to see young graduates of GFLL “giving back” to the league (and all the volunteers who invested time in them) by stepping up to umpire the younger kids’ games.  We accept umpires who are age 12 and older for training.  They start off working AA and AAA and once experienced can move up to working Majors games also.  The league also offers compensation for Youth Umpires for each game.

Game Information

Weekday games are traditionally played on Monday-Thursday with a 6:00 or 6:30 start time and typically last 2 to 2-1/2 hours.

Weekend games are played on Saturdays usually starting at 10:00 AM.

There are no make-up games in the Fall Season.  Spring make-up games are scheduled on Sundays when necessary.

How to Register to Become an Umpire

  1. Log into the GFLL website (www.gflittleleague.org).  This should take you to the “My Account” page.
  2. There will be a list of “Participants” on your screen.  Find the person who wants to be an umpire and click on the green “X Programs Available” button next to the person’s name. (NOTE: DO NOT click on the red VOLUNTEER button on the left side of the screen.  This is not where Umpires sign up.)
  3. In the list of available programs, there should be one called “Umpire Registration Fall 2018.”  If this option is not available, there are two potential reasons why.  First, the person you are trying to register does not meet the age requirements to be an umpire.  The second reason is that there is an error and you should contact us via email ([email protected]).
  4. Click the “Select” button next to “Umpire Registration Fall 2018” and then click the “Continue” button.
  5. Complete all of the required fields and then click the “Continue” button.
  6. You will now be on the Registration Summary page.  Review the information and click on the “Continue” button.
  7. You will be asked to confirm your Payment Information.  Even though there is no charge to be an umpire, this information is required.  Click the “Continue” button.
  8. You will now be on the Order Review and Submission Page.  Please click the “Submit Order” button at the bottom of the page.
  9. Once you have landed on the Order Confirmation page, you have completed the Umpire Registration Process.  Thank you!
